Of the many wonderful memories I had during my childhood days, I consider going to China for a study tour as one of the most unforgettable experiences I had.
On the summer of the year 2005, my parents decided to send us (my sister, my younger brother and me) to Quanzhou, China for a six-weeks study tour. Of course, our first reaction was not good. We never wanted to be separated with our parents, because we were not used to it. Our parents keeps on insisting that going on a study tour will improve our Chinese-speaking skills and it will also be a new experience for us.
Going on a study tour gave us the opportunity to meet our tour-mates. There were 40 plus students in our group who were also studying in a Chinese school. They came from different provinces like Baguio, Zamboanga and many other more.
Living and studying in China was difficult to endure. Most of us were home sick during the first two weeks because life is not the same in China. There are no parents to tell us what to do, no maids to do household chores and no gadgets to kill our boredom. We just needed to stick to our schedule which is studying all day long and having siesta time after lunch. But, there's also something to be excited about during the week, its touring outside the school campus. We were brought to many places in China, we had the opportunity to go to many tourists spots and also go shopping.
When the tour was about to end, we were all depressed because we might not see each other again. We said farewell to each other with tears in our eyes and the hope of meeting again someday.
* I would like to share my experiences to other people, especially to those who wants to meet new friends and to those who wants to learn how to be independent. Going on a study tour will not only help a person mentally and socially, but it can also add a new list of happy memories.
We had a similar experience though mine was just a youth camp. I really agree with your last paragraph. :D
